Welcome to the Greater Accra region of Ghana

The Greater Accra Region is a vibrant and diverse region in the southern part of Ghana with friendly and hospitable people. The Ga people are the largest ethnic group living in the Greater Accra Region and the Ga language is the main local language spoken alongside English, the official language of Ghana. Traditional festivals and ceremonies held throughout the year such as the Homowo and Adae Festivals.

Cuisine in this regions is a unique blend of African and Western influences. Popular dishes include jollof rice, banku, and the renowned Ga kenkey that you just cannot and should not miss.

Even though this is the smallest region in Ghana, it is home to the bustling capital city of Accra, offering a wide range of activities and attractions, from ancient sites to local entertainment places. You are welcome to visit and experience the tropical climate and enjoy the beautiful beaches, such as Labadi Beach.

For those interested in history, there are a few places you will want to see. Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park are the must-see places. Historical locations celebrating Ghana’s gained independence from British colonial rule in 1957. The Makola Market, for example, is one of the largest markets in West Africa and Osu Castle, a slave fort, and UNESCO World Heritage Site is something every history lover will appreciate.
