Welcome to the Western region of Ghana

The Western Region of Ghana, in the southern part of the country, is a must-visit destination for travellers. With a diverse geography of sandy beaches, lush rainforests, and winding rivers, the region is a nature lover’s paradise. The capital city, Sekondi-Takoradi (‘the twin city’), is an industrial and commercial capital of the region with a population of over 44000 people. It is also a port city with its convenient location in the Gulf of Guinea.

One highlight of the Western Region, its local cuisine, features popular staples such as Banku, Kenkey, and Fufu. The main languages spoken in the region are Fante, Akan, and English.

When exploring this beautiful region, don’t forget to visit some of the attractive sites, including The Ankasa Protected Area or Ankobra, Bia, and Pra Rivers in the east, and the Tano River. These rivers partly form the western national border. The famous village of Nzulezo, built entirely on stilts and platforms over water is also something you would not want to miss.

Local warm hospitality and deep-rooted culture also reflect in traditional festivals such as the Fetu Afahye and the Kundum festival. Visitors can take a small piece of the culture home by purchasing traditional crafts like kente cloth and pottery.

The Western Region of Ghana offers a unique and unforgettable experiences that are waiting to be explored for a truly memorable trip.
